Litti and Chokha | Your all time favorite

If you speak about Bihar and don’t talk about Litti and Chokha, then it is impossible. Litti Chokha is a Signature dish of Bihar. There are lots of dishes and sweets available in this state, but Litti and Chokha are the most favorite amongst all. The history of Litti Chokha is very old, and we can relate to it from ancient India. As per the records, it is mentioned that Litti was considered as a Brave Sepoy during the Mutiny of 1857. The great Indian freedom Fighters like Rani Lakshmi Bai, Tatya Tope used this as food for survival during war. 

The main reason behind it is called Survival Food due to it can be prepared without any utensils and can be in edible condition for more than two days. From that time, there have been lots of changes in this signature dish, and now it is prepared in many ways. Preparing Litti Chokha is not a difficult task, and it can be prepared in no time. Little is quite similar to Batti, which is a regional food of Rajasthan. 

Now the famous signature dish of Bihar, Litti Chokha, is easily available in some parts of the Country. Little is prepared from wheat flour with a mixture of roasted gram flour. At the same time, the chokha is prepared from boiled and mashed potatoes with chopped Onion and spices. Also, it can be prepared with tomatoes. Now we are going to tell you how you can prepare the Litti Chokha recipe very easily at your home.

Ingredients for Litti Chokha

First of all, you need to knead the dough for Kitty, and for the same, you will require Wheat flour, baking powder, Carom Seeds, Salt, Ghee, and water. For Little stuffing, you need Roasted Gram Flour, Coriander, Green Chilli, Ginger Garlic Paste, Cumin Seeds, Kalonji, Salt, Lemon Juice, and mustard Oil. For Tomato Chokha, you will need Tomato, Green Chilli, Garlic, Ginger, Onion, Coriander, Lemon Juice, Mustard Oil, and salt. 

How to Prepare Litti

Firstly take the wheat flour, baking powder, Carom Seed (Ajwain), salt, and Ghee in a large mixing bowl. Mix all the ingredients very well so that the Ghee is combined well with all the ingredients. After that, add water to knead the dough. Remember to knead the smooth dough and then grease it with a few drops of oil. Now leave the dough for 20 minutes. 

Prepare the Litti Stuffing

Take out a large bowl and put Sattu Flour or Gram Flour, add Coriander, Green Chilli, Ginger Garlic Paste, Cumin Seeds, Kalonji, Ajwain, Salt, and lemon juice. Now mix it well and add mustard oil to it. One thing to remember is that the Stuffing mixture should not be dry or too wet. 

Method to Prepare Litti

Knead the dough slightly and take a small size dough. Now press the edges and form a cup. Add sattu filling to the center of the cup. Now pinch off the excess stuffing and cover the dough. Put a Gas Oven on the Gas and cook the prepared little in it. Check the list in regular intervals so that it should not be burnt from any side. Cook the litti until it turns brown. 

Recipe to Prepare Tomato Chokha

Roast the Tomatoes by applying the oil on its sides. Then put the tomatoes to cool and peel off the skins of the tomatoes. After that, mash all the tomatoes and add Green Chilli, Ginger, Garlic, Onion, Coriander, Lemon Juice, Mustard Oil, and salt. Mix all the items very well. So your Litti and Chokha have been prepared, and you get it to taste with Green Chutney of Coriander and mint.
