History:
Under the British, this ground was called Patna Lawns or Bankipore Maidan. The British utilized it for polo sports, horse dashing, and as a fairway. During the Indian independence conflict, it transformed into a launchpad for different political developments. The name of this notable ground was changed to Gandhi Maidan when Mahatma Gandhi visited Bihar at the moment of Champaran Satyagraha. Indeed, even today, Gandhi Maidan keeps on being a favorite spot for significant political and social events in Patna. Also in this ground held many presentations, book fairs, and theater celebrations.
Why It Is Important:
Quit India Movement and Champaran Movement was propelled in Bihar from this ground in 1942. From this ground the Muslim League was restored by Mohammad Ali Jinnah in 1938. Pioneers like Mahatma Gandhi, Rajendra Prasad, Sardar Patel, Jawaharlal Nehru, and Jaya Prakash Narayan tended to their political meetings from Gandhi Maidan during the Indian freedom. Loknayak Jayprakash Narayan propelled ‘Sampoorna Kranti’ from this ground in 1974 to expel Congress from power. At this ground Subhash Chandra Bose had organized a meeting of his Forward Bloc in 1939.
