The Only 2 Ways to Reach Ladakh: The Mesmerizing Beauty

Ladakh is a heaven for wanderers. The place has an impeccable number of natural attractions and mind-blowing monasteries. However, there are only two ways to reach Ladakh. One way is airways, and the other is roadways.

In this article, I will be telling you in detail about the two ways to reach Ladakh. If you’re planning a trip to Ladakh, check my article on 7-Day Trip to Ladakh: An Ultimate Guide To Adventure. Now, without any further delay, let’s get started!

The Only 2 Ways to Reach Ladakh

Ladakh remains detached from the rest of the world for half of the year due to its harsh climatic conditions. But, the other half is just the prestigious opportunity to explore the surreal beauty of the place.

Ways to Reach Ladakh: Airways

Out of the two ways to reach Ladakh, airways is the more convenient means of transportation. Delhi has the most frequent number of flights to Ladakh, therefore, it is suggested to take a flight from Delhi. Other metropolitan areas like Mumbai, and a few more cities also have flights to Ladakh but generally, they are connected and thus, unnecessarily time-consuming.

Now the real question is:

Which is the Nearest Airport to Ladakh?

Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport, Leh

Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport is the nearest airport to Ladakh. It is located in Leh and is not very far from the main city. As I said, the airport is connected with Delhi the most, followed by Mumbai, Chandigarh, Kolkata, and other urban areas.

You can check the flight’s cost and timing to decide the best according to your convenience. One great website for details is Etripto.

IMPORTANT! When you travel to Ladakh via airway, you are more prone to catching AMS. AMS is Acute Mountain Sickness, which is a disorder that occurs when there’s a change in oxygen level in your body and surroundings. Ladakh is a high-altitude location, thus the oxygen level varies evidently, causing headaches, vomiting, and other health issues that are the symptoms of AMS.

Ways to Reach Ladakh: Roadways

Although the second among the two ways to reach Ladakh, roadways are considered the best for both AMS and experience.

You can start your journey using any transport, be it a bus, car, bike, or anything! However, Ladakh is also a restricted zone, which means, it has some strict rules to be followed by every traveler. One such rule is that external vehicles, apart from privately owned cars, are not allowed in Ladakh.

Therefore, you’ll have to leave your vehicle and rent a local bike or vehicle to travel across Ladakh.

Way to Reach Ladakh: Conclusion

Roadway and Airways are the only two ways to reach Ladakh. Considering AMS, roadways are way better than those of Airways. However, if you want to reach Ladakh faster and have an upper view, the airways would do that!

I suggest taking roadways to reach Ladakh and airways to go back home.
